When Mrs. Sen’s husband Major General B.K. Sen died in Kargil war she was very depressed. She could not get herself together for three months. She consulted a psychiatrist who advised her to do some social service which will give her immense satisfaction and cure her from her depression.
She opened up an orphanage home for the destilute children in a remote village. One day some children of the home asked her, “Maa,(they used to address her as Maa) we have heard that Biriyani is a delicious dish. How does it taste and how to prepare it?” She told them to look into the kitchen for the ingredients. The ingredients which were required to prepare Biriyani was not there. So Mrs. Sen told them to eat whatever they had for the dinner and pray to God before going to bed for sending them Biriyani in the near future.Because it was not possible for her to feed 30 odd children Biriyani from her husband’s pension and from the help she gets from her acquaintances. All the children prayed and went to sleep.During midnig
t some of them woke up hearing some noise outside. They went to enquire what had happened. They found out some three or four men were saying to their Maa. ”Madam we have two handis of Biriyani from a marriage ceremony. Due to heavy rain many guests were absent. So we have surplus food.If you,allow us we can give your children the surplus food.That night all the children had Biriyani  which they ate happily even after having dinner before. From that day they started believing in God more than ever.
